Sangeeta Joshi, Ph.D.

Dr. Sangeeta Joshi is a pharmaceutical scientist with over 25 years of academic and industrial experience in the areas of formulation development and drug delivery. As co-founder and Executive Director of the Vaccine Analytics and Formulation Center, located within the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Kansas (KU), she writes research proposals/grants (co-PI) and directs research projects that involve preformulation characterization and formulation development of vaccine and protein biotherapeutics candidates to facilitate their entry into early and late stage clinical trials. Her technical expertise is in the areas of analytical characterization, stabilization and formulation of proteins, viruses, and other macromolecular assemblies.

Dr. Joshi manages ~30 client relationships per year, including the scientific and project activities of ~25 VAFC scientists. She has overseen hundreds of analytical and formulation development projects with a wide variety of biotherapeutic and vaccine candidates during her 24+ years at KU, including recent work with now marketed products including a recombinant HA flu vaccine (FluBlok™), an oncolytic herpes virus-based therapy (T-VEC™) as well as a live multivalent dengue virus vaccine candidate (TAK-003) and a recombinant non-replicating rotavirus vaccine (NRRV) in late stage clinical trials. 

Dr. Joshi earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Delhi University, India and spent over 3 years as a postdoctoral fellow/Research Associate in a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) laboratory at Northwestern University in the areas of virology (especially paramyxoviruses and orthomyxoviruses), cell and molecular biology and biochemistry. 

She is the co-author of ~150 papers in the areas of molecular virology and biochemistry as well as formulation and stabilization of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines.

Dr. Joshi has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences, and has received numerous national and international awards including the ICRETT fellowship award (to work as an exchange scientist at NIH) and an HHMI fellowship.
